Victorian based Architect Bill McCorkell and Builder David Martin of Archiblox are the cofounders behind the prefabricated Backyard Room(BYR) business, which launched early last year.
If you’ve ever dreamt of having a separate room from your house to be used as a man cave, sewing room, games room, home office or guest house, then these BYR’s are what you’re looking for. Whatever you choose the room to be, this sustainable BYR has huge potential for changing both your backyard and your home lifestyle altogether.
Nowadays one in ten people are working for themselves and one in 12 employees work at home each week. The Backyard Room fills the growing need for a space to work that is separate from the home, professional and saves on costs of commuting and office renting.
McCorkell explains ‘these days, whether people are working from home, starting their own business or doing creative projects, we know the importance of having a space that is removed from the hustle and bustle of the family home… we’re offering that, architecturally designed and cost-effectively.’
The studios are both smart and stylish, designed by award winning architects who focus on designing big rather than building big, ensuring that the space feels more spacious than it actually is. Each structure is fully prefabricated, meaning that it is designed and built in six weeks and installed on-site within five days.
Studios range from 2.2m x 2.4m to 3.3m x 6.9m in size, with a price tags starting from just under $20,000. There is also a custom Build. It option where you can customise your BYR to be exactly how you want it. The Backyard Room’s are also exempt from most planning permits, making them an easy, affordable and quick way to create that much needed extra space.
